We live close to downtown Alpharetta. Every Saturday, I see the Alpharetta Farmers Market and want to stop and shop. But, it always seems we need to run in a different direction. We finally had a free Saturday morning and made the time to go. It definitely won't be the last time.
There are local vendors set up throughout the Alpharetta City Center in tents selling their products. And it is not just vegetables. While there are wonderful local vegetables, the Alpharetta Farmers Market also has local vendors selling everything from soaps to jewelry to art to homemade sauces to my favorite pimento cheese! It felt so nice to walk through the Alpharetta City Center and see people supporting our local small businesses. All the vendors were wearing masks and a majority of the outdoor shoppers were wearing masks too. There were also sanitizing stations.
A musician was singing on the corner and the festive atmosphere was refreshing. Even though we were wearing masks, I was smiling at strangers and could feel their smiles back. It felt nice to be out in the community on such a beautiful day.
There are plenty of lunch spots to enjoy after the market. You can get takeout and then picnic on the green area or at the outdoor tables. My favorite lunch spots at Alpharetta City Center are Never Enough Thyme and Chiringa. And you can also shop at some of the local shops in Alpharetta City Center as well. A few of my favorites are Southern Local, The Pink Valise and The Red Hound.
Through this health pandemic, we have kept our circle small. I have greatly missed a sense of community. Wearing a mask and strolling through downtown Alpharetta with all the small businesses and seeing locals gave me something I had been missing. Community.
Awesome Alpharetta: we are in this together; especially with local pimento cheese by our side!
TIPS
- Bring a mask. All the vendors were wearing masks, so wear yours too!
- Bring a cooler. I had plans after the market, so I didn't plan ahead for items that needed refrigeration. I wanted to buy guacamole, chicken salad and yes PIMENTO CHEESE -- but I couldn't because I wasn't going home immediately afterwards. I saw people with rolling coolers -- brilliant! I will now have to wait until Saturday for that pimento cheese! The pimento cheese struggle is real.
- Pack some extra clothes so your littles can cool off in the Alpharetta City Center water fountains.
HEALTH & SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
The Farmers Market will have guidelines posted throughout the market to assure proper social distancing and sanitary procedures including strongly encouraging customers to bring and wear their own masks, adhering to keeping 6 feet apart from vendors and non-family members, and honoring one-way traffic throughout the market. Vendors are required to wear masks and have been asked to have hand sanitizer at their booths. Volunteers will provide market hand sanitizer to customers on the way in and out. They will also monitor pedestrian traffic flow.
