Tubing Fun at Snow Mountain

By Karen Cohen, publisher of Macaroni Kid Alpharetta-Roswell-Milton January 6, 2020

Growing up in Marietta, snow days were rare. As a kid, I remember always hoping for snow -- so we could go outside with the neighborhood kids and go sledding. Now, that I have kids, I see through their eyes the childhood wish for snow.

As mother nature doesn't always cooperate with Georgia snow, we decided to give Snow Mountain at Stone Mountain a try. We packed up our snow gear -- hats, boots, gloves, heavy coats and an extra pair of dry clothes and headed to the mountain! The experience did not disappoint.

The tubing tickets should be purchased in advance and are good for a two hour block. The ticket gives you access to all the tubing rides and the snow zone where you can play in the snow. There is tube runner for single or double tubes to race each other down the slope. For group tubing, Avalanche Alley will plunge you down a 400-foot hill. Our boys favorite ride was Dare Devil Plunge that took them sledding through a tunnel.

Our boys also enjoyed the Snow Zone. Some kids were building snowmen, but our boys were playing snow football and throwing snowballs at each other.

And, even though we enjoyed our tubing Snow Mountain adventure, our boys are still holding out hope for real snow this year. I am not sure if it is for the joy of seeing real snow or their desire to miss a day of school, but regardless of the reason -- we will eagerly watch, wait and dream of an Alpharetta-Roswell-Milton winter wonderland sometime in 2020.

Snow Mountain is open until February 23, 2020.
