Refresh. Connect. Join Me For A Walk.

It's become a bit of a habit for us. Something we both look forward to each day. And it starts with a four-letter-word. 

"Walk?" I say to my Black Labrador, Shelby. This one little word sends her into such a sense of excitement that it transmits to me in a bundle of smiles and laughter, and we both go bounding down the stairs as I grab headphones, her leash, and a trash bag for, well, you know what the trash bag would be for.

The sun isn't always shining. The weather not always warm. But one thing's for sure, that walk has become such an uplifting part of my day, it really doesn't matter what the weather had planned. It's a way for me to reset. To take a little time for myself, to listen to a podcast, find inspiration and creativity, and put me in the right mind-frame to be a good mother, wife and friend. 

So, why not count the miles? Why not reach for a goal? Why not join a team of three like-minded new and old friends who can encourage one another along the way? I've enjoyed getting to know women across the country, even one overseas, and encouraging each other along our miles. With each other's support, we've been able to endure long weeks of not achieving the miles for which we had hoped, and finding the tucked away moments to get in those few extra steps to reach our goals.

That's what 99 Walks is all about. It's a team effort to together walk 99 miles in one month, 33 miles each. It's a chance to reconnect and carve out some time for yourself. It may be walking to your favorite tunes or, like me, a podcast, or it could be a time you catch up on life with a friend. 

Walking has been proven to be an amazingly effective form of exercise. Most everyone can do it, and there really is no equipment needed, other than a comfortable pair of athletic shoes. Hit the streets, a trail, or even a treadmill. There are no rules other than to get moving. 

We recently surveyed 2,300 moms and found:

  • 73% of moms feel lonely
  • 90% want to lose weight
  • 89% would like to improve their level of fitness
