Finding Holiday Magic at Six Flags Holiday in the Park

By Erin Stolle, Publisher/Editor - Macaroni Kid Alpharetta-Roswell-Milton November 26, 2018

It was a beautiful day when we strolled into the main entrance at Six Flags Over Georgia for their Holiday in the Park® celebration. Though the sun was still high in the sky, the festive feel was all around with colorful decorations in all shades of holiday spirit. The air was electric with sounds of laughter, seasonal music, and delighted cheers and whoops as nearby rollercoasters sped down their tracks. It was all my 8-year-old son and I could do to keep our feet on the ground as we breathed it in and soaked it all up, ready to join the fun. And, this was just the beginning.

We wet our feet on the Gotham City Crime Wave and the Harley Quinn Spinsanity before we headed over to the kid's area for the Joker Funhouse Coaster and Superman: Tower of Power. I have to say, I enjoyed these rides just as much as my little dude. They are enough thrill without being too scary, and something we can easily do with our kids. Of course, there are plenty of other rides just perfect for the little ones in your family!

One of our favorites, well, probably my favorite, is the Justice League: Battle for Metropolis. I love the 3D effects and the fact that it's so interactive, paired with a bit of what seems like high-flying thrill mixed in! Definitely check this one out and get ready to battle the villains along the way!

Before the sun set, we stopped at the Dahlonega Mine Train which is such a fun ride to do with the whole family. Just watch for the bumps and turns and jerks along the way. This ride will certainly keep you on your toes!

As the sun began to set, we hurried back to Main Street to catch the carolers decked out in old-fashioned attire singing some of our favorite holiday tunes. The canopy of lights leading from the entrance of the park to the beautiful tree were shining brightly and illuminating the sky with spectacular colors, not to mention the snow fluttering through the air as we watched singers and dancers kick off the tree lighting with a joyful show. My son and I were smiling the whole time and singing along!

After the show, it was on to the North Pole Express to see Santa and Mrs. Claus. We hopped aboard the train and settled in for a quick trip while we were entertained with the story of colors and lights. It was so enjoyable, and we soon pulled into the North Pole station. Santa was waiting for all the kids and spent his time with each, with an elf snapping a dozen of the perfect photos to remember the experience. My son still talks about how there were real live elves at Santa's house! They were dressed to a tee, including the pointed ears!

After my son told his wishes to Santa and we picked out our treasured photo, we grabbed a bite to eat and made s'mores over an open campfire before we headed home. We took in all the sights, sounds and smells of the season with the park so beautifully lit and full of festive fun.

We skipped our way back to the car, talking about our favorite rides and our time together. It was a fun bonding experience for the two of us, and it really put both of us in the Christmas spirit. This year, make Six Flags Holiday in the Park a destination for your family and friends. Experience the magic of the season with rides, shows and entertainment, visits with Santa and spectacular beauty.
