My family and I were treated to a show at Medieval Times on Mother's Day. My boys, ages 3 and 7, are at a perfect age to enjoy the excitement of the "knights and sword-fighting," but that evening I learned that the show has so much more to offer!
When you arrive, you check in at the box office to receive your seat assignments. The earlier you get there, the closer to the action you'll sit, so keep that in mind. I'd plan an hour in advance if you want a front row seat, but honestly, all the seats in the house are good as there is action everywhere. You're handed a crown to wear throughout the show. The color of the crown tells you for which knight you will be cheering.
There are plenty of chances for paid photo opps and souvenirs, so be aware that your kids will be mesmerized by all of the flags, swords, and memorabilia available before, during and after the show. (The picture below was after the show and the knight graciously posed for the photo with my youngest. They even switched implements and allowed my son to hold his microphone!)Once inside the arena, you file into your seat and are greeted by your serving wench who will instruct you on how the next two hours will go. They run like clockwork as they deliver beverages, soup, bread, half of a chicken (yes, half), a spare rib, potato, wet wipes and dessert. And get used to being called M'Lady and M'Lord as all of the staff is in true character of the medieval times! I mentioned the wet wipe as there are NO utensils during the meal. This is a time to forget about your manicure and just dig in to the experience! Kids are served the exact same food, so be prepared to help them out, too.
While you're enjoying your feast, you will be thoroughly entertained by shows of horsemanship, falconry, medieval sporting events, and even a jousting tournament between the knights! The crowd really gets into it as their knight is up to prove their skill, and my 3-year-old was even up on his feet pretending he was part of the show!
People of all ages are sure to enjoy the excitement of Medieval Times, so I encourage you to make this part of your list of things to do with the family this summer. You're certain to have a great time and make wonderful memories with your family!
