Fulton County Library Restores Full Library Services

Alpharetta, Roswell, Milton libraries offer free storytimes, events and books!

By Karen Cohen, publisher of Macaroni Kid Alpharetta-Roswell-Milton July 17, 2021

The Fulton County Library System recently reopened all 33 branch libraries including the Alpharetta, Roswell and Milton branches for full-time in-person services, Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Wednesdays - Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

As part of the final phase of the reopening plan, the library is phasing in the following services:

  • Meeting, conference and study rooms will now be open and available for use.
  • In accordance with CDC guidelines, people who are unvaccinated or not yet fully vaccinated are asked to wear masks in Fulton County facilities. People who are fully vaccinated (two weeks after the final dose of vaccine), may opt not to wear a mask in facilities.
  • In-branch programming will resume at all library branches.
  • In-branch use of tables/chairs or lounge areas will resume.
  • Self-serve options will remain in place and are recommended for in-branch services like self-checkout machines for paying fines and fees.

I was able to convince our tween/teen to break away from "reading on their phones" and take a trip to the Alpharetta library for some real books! Our kids did not inherit my love of reading, so we pursued non-fiction books that aligned with their interests such as sports. The boys ended up with books about sport all stars, baseball stadiums, sports trivia, Guinness Book of World Record fun facts and even a Minecraft book. They were reading and quizzing each other on the car ride home. We've left the books on our coffee table and I have found them picking up the books and looking through them as they sit on the couch.

There is even a teen room at the Alpharetta library!

Upcoming Events

When our boys were little, I would regularly take them to library storytimes. We would enjoy a free program, spend time checking out books and then pack a picnic for lunch. It was a great get out of the house activity and by the time we got home, it was nap time. It really helped break up the day. We met many new friends attending the library storytimes.

These summer days, I have to drag them out of bed at 10AM, so they don't sleep the day away. But, I will never forget those fond memories from their younger years spent at library storytime outings.

Check out some of the upcoming FREE library events:

Alpharetta Branch: 10 Park Plaza, Alpharetta GA 30009

Milton Branch: 855 Mayfield Rd., Milton GA 30009

Roswell: 115 Norcross Street, Roswell GA 30075

East Roswell: 2301 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell GA 30076

Book Recommendations

If you are looking for some kid book recommendations, check out Phase Family Center's recent article, Tips and Book Recommendations for Summer Reading.

And, if you are looking for summer reading for YOU... my current favorite author is Kristin Hannah. Right now I am reading her book, "Between Sisters." My favorite books of hers have been, The Nightingale, The Great Alone, The Four Winds

Another way I find books to read is by looking at the Good Reads annual book choice awards HERE. I make a list of books I want to read and then I put the books on hold through the library online system. I get an email when the books are back and ready for me to pick up at the library.
