PLAN AHEAD: Create Your 2021 Summer Bucket List

By Karen Cohen, publisher of Macaroni Kid Alpharetta-Roswell-Milton May 4, 2021

"We are at the finish line!" "You've got this!" "You can do it!" "GET OUT OF BED!" Does any of this sound familiar? Well, it is me every single morning as I try to cheer, encourage and let's face it bribe our boys to just make it through the final few weeks of this school year. And if I am being quite honest... I am cheering myself on as much as I am them.

It has been quite a school year for students, teachers, and parents. The pandemic altered the normal school routine and we all did the best we could. But, summer is upon us. A time to recharge, reset and recover!

As summer approaches, I want to make the most of it. We've started a summer bucket list and you can too. It is an easy way to dream about the upcoming summer days. And when the summer comes and you hear the words, "I am bored," you can just check your bucket list and plan a fun summer day.

We literally have a bucket with a school countdown at our backpack station. Every morning... we can see it and know we are one day closer to summer fun.

A few summer fun ideas in our bucket:

  • Truist park tour
  • Canoe
  • Paddleboard
  • Tubing in Helen
  • Lanier World
  • Athens
  • Fernbank
  • Island Ford Trail
  • Vogel State Park

And when our boys started adding ideas to the bucket, they had such simple requests such as go to Bell Memorial park with friends, go to a movie theater and have friends come over. So, summer fun doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive. After a health pandemic year -- it is the simple things like playing with friends that will make this a summer never to forget.
