Movies are Back at Aurora Cineplex in Roswell

Space Jam: A New Legacy Now Showing!

By Karen Cohen, publisher of Macaroni Kid Alpharetta-Roswell-Milton July 18, 2021

After spending much of the summer with the boys playing in baseball tournaments, camps and traveling.... it hit me, we only have three weeks until school. Three weeks? How did that happen? The summer has flown by and I am not at all ready to set alarms, pack lunches and make a mad dash for the bus stop again.

I went to the summer bucket of fun we created at the end of school. All the grand ideas we wanted to do during the "lazy" summer days. A day trip to Athens to see the UGA campus? Doesn't look like that one is happening.... Tour Truist Park? We've been to several Braves game, does that count? Tubing in Helen? I did plan that one for the week before summer starts, hooray! But, what could we do today on a rare day with nothing scheduled?

Our 12-year-old submitted "go see a movie in a real theater" again. Ah, that is simple enough. We can accomplish that summer fun bucket wish.

The boys had been hearing the buzz about "Space Jam: A New Legacy." They love basketball and LeBron James and I love movie popcorn, so it was an easy decision. They each invited a friend and we made a family/friend Saturday night at the movies at Aurora Cineplex

The theater was clean and employees were wearing masks. It was our first movie back in the theater since before the pandemic.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is a family-friendly movie with a heartwarming theme of a father/son bond and being yourself. The premise of the movie finds LeBron and his son stuck in video game cyberspace. In order to escape, LeBron must assemble a basketball team to play and defeat the evil artificial intelligence team. LeBron's underdog basketball team is the LOONEY TUNES characters, so funny misfortunes ensue.

We all thought the movie was good and entertaining. The boys tell me there were some NBA players cameos, so they loved that! It was a wholesome film that took me back to my own childhood watching Looney Tunes.

Now, we have one summer fun wish list done, a bucket more to go!
