Currently operating virtually will revisit on campus plans in mid September

By Karen Cohen, publisher of Macaroni Kid Alpharetta-Roswell-Milton August 26, 2020

For nearly 50 years, High Meadows School has inspired children in preschool through eighth grade to think critically, learn creatively, act globally, and live compassionately.

High Meadows School is a place where adventure, play and discovery go hand-in-hand with extraordinary academic preparation and exemplary student outcomes. We know that there is time in each school day for intellectual challenge and fresh air, for authentic learning and movement. From our outstanding faculty and breathtaking campus to our small classes and acclaimed International Baccalaureate curriculum, a High Meadows School experience is unlike any other.

“From the start, we believed in children’s innate love of learning and our responsibility to nurture and encourage that spark.” –Jody Holden, Co-Founder of High Meadows School

COVID-19 RESPONSE PLAN

Currently the school is open virtually and will revisit on campus attendance in mid-September.

The High Meadows faculty, leadership, board and staff worked over the summer planning for a 2020-21 school year that is reflective of its mission, values and educational beliefs. Our school year began in August utilizing interactive, virtual tools and classes. Our online programming places high value on relationship, connection, student engagement, and empowering students as learners. In mid to late September, we will evaluate the safety of a return to campus for on-site learning.

ACADEMICS

At High Meadows School, we believe that learning is about engagement and connection, not reciting and repeating. Our faculty members continually inspire students to ask the next question, explore what matters to them, and become respectful self-advocates. Through meaningful experience, dialogue and inquiry, students become reflective and motivated individuals prepared for long-term academic success and leadership as global citizens.

On our campus, it is common to see students outdoors and in classrooms observing, measuring, discussing, and hypothesizing. Academic study at High Meadows is hands-on and interactive, creating critical thinkers for whom learning is a natural part of their every day, at school and elsewhere. Learning through experience takes many shapes within our curriculum.

Our 42 acres of woods, meadows, and gardens provide the perfect outdoor classroom for daily learning and investigation. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, we follow principles that develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are motivated to succeed. We also use a progressive approach to education that encourages students to collaborate, make discoveries, and apply what they learn to the world beyond school.
