Bringing Out the Best in Our Puppy with Sit Means Sit North Metro

By Erin Stolle, Publisher - Macaroni Kid Alpharetta/Roswell/Milton March 30, 2015
Last August, we brought home four pounds of the cutest, softest ball of black fur on which we had ever laid eyes. We named her Shelby and instantly bonded with her lovable personality, her warm licks and oodles of cuddles. This adorable black labrador puppy was the perfect addition to our family and we were smitten.

At just seven weeks old, we knew we had our work cut out for us to housebreak her, so I summoned up my patience and polished up my potty-training skills and we cleaned up many a puddle on our floors until she had mastered the rules.

Over the next few weeks, she began to test us a bit more and we knew it was time to look into starting her obedience training. Unsure where to begin, I asked our veterinarian for recommendations and he highly recommended Sit Means Sit North Metro. After hearing glowing remarks on how well-trained the dogs were that the company's owner, Alex, brought by, we knew that this was a great place to start. So, I gave Alex a call.

Shelby was now three months old and was at an ideal age for puppy training. We scheduled an in-home training and spent an hour with the trainer learning some basic commands on which to work, such as "Come," "Sit," "Kennel," and "Place." Completely reinforced with praise and treats, Shelby caught on quickly and we were given the instructions to continue working with her on a daily basis for short periods of time.

We followed up with another puppy training at the 4-month mark, reinforcing the basic commands and introducing a "Heel," not pulling while walking on a leash and some minor distractions. Again, it was a steady increase to prepare her for when she was ready for full obedience training a couple of months later.

Each training followed up with calls from the trainers checking in on us and Shelby's progress. We have been very pleased with working with Sit Means Sit North Metro and I highly recommend them.

In the coming weeks, we'll share more of our experience and just what Sit Means Sit North Metro can do for your family and pets.
